Today we took our first practice STAAR test in class. We will be going over the questions and answers tomorrow. Something I noticed about this particular test is that you really had to pay close attention to the details in the problem. this meant reading and rereading the problem multiple times and breaking it about into manageable pieces that you could solve. this was certainly one of the most difficult tests we've ever taken in 5th grade.
I want you to answer these three questions regarding the test.
1. What did you notice about the test? (differences or similarities from other tests we've taken)
2. What is your best test-taking strategy?
3. If we were to do this test again what would you have done differently?

1.i noticed that it was the same subjects and similar questions.Difference were that it was alot harder than past tests and it has a different name.
ReplyDelete2.to read each question carefuly and if i dont understand how to do it i come back to it at the end.
3.i probably would have done it a little neater than i did today but i did my best.
1. it is a lot more presher because it is timed
ReplyDelete2.take your time
3.i would have did half of the problums and bubbled in those and then i would have done the other problums and bubbled those in
1. We still have a time limit and some same subjects.
ReplyDelete2. To work things out and if something doesn't make sence i go back and read it again... that happened to me about 4 times.
3. I would still have my answers but if i learned something new i would change that one. =)
1.this test was alot harder from the other ones and a mix of different subjects.2.what i did was read the problems a couple of times to understand the situation.3.? 2
ReplyDelete1. It seems easier than the TAKS and I think that I may be able to do it because the questions seem as easy as preassesments although there is more pressure because it is timed.
ReplyDelete2. Keep reading a question over and over until you understand it
3. Probably go over it more so I know that I got all the questions correct and i will know because i checked
1. IT seems a bit harder than the TAKS test but the whole test was mostly things that we should know.
ReplyDelete2. I read the question twice, then solve it. When I have completed all my problems, I check all of them and record the answers on the answer document.
3. I think I should check the test twice before I record it on the answer document.

1.it was more challenging than the TAKS but not too hard.and sometimes, you literally had to break the problem into pieces to solve it.
ReplyDelete2.I had to read the questions at least 4 times and then if that didn't work, I broke it into pieces.
3. I would probably check my test and redo the questions if I had time.

Like everyone else said, it was a lot harder than the TAKS test, but it was still do-able. The math benchmarks are also very different. They were all multi steps. I remember from last year thart the TAKS test has some tottally wrong answers a 1st grader would know (OK, not a 1st grader, but you know what I mean) which is differnt from this practice STAAR.
ReplyDeleteFor this particular test, I had to reread the questions several times and skiped the questions that were too long-taking, or I did'nt know the answer to, then come back to them. Another test stragety I used in this particular test, was just go at the begining and look for 2 things- what to expect, and star the ones that seemed to be complcasted. Then, I start over and do all the stared ones first because you have more concentration at the begining of the test than you do at the end.
If I had more time, I would have took a break just thinking about math related stuff (or else I have trouble going back to the test) then go back to it.
1. it took longer than the TAKS to finish... or at least it felt longer. it makes you more stressed because your on a time limit
ReplyDelete2. if the answer i got for a problem dosen't seem right i would start the question over agin to see what i did wrong.
3. i would have re-done my thinking because some of the questions i don't think i understood all that well
1.The test was a bit harder than the TAKS test but the test is stuff that we have studied and learned in the homework.
ReplyDelete2.I read the problem read it again if i dont get it I try then if i still dont get it i skip it and come back to it at the end.
3.I would probably check my test and then redo all the questions over again.
(Pramod)
1. The questions were longer and more complicated, sort of like the study island questions.
ReplyDelete2. I re-read the question until I really understand it, and then attempt to answer it.
3.I'm not sure if I would have done anything differently.
(From Ross)
1. THE questions are harder and they try harder to trick you.
ReplyDelete2.well like i said they try to trick you so i re-read it find out the trick and solve it.
3.well i don't think i would have done something differently.
http://www.snorgtees.com/ go here for awesome lookin t-shirts.
1) It was a little harder than the TAKS test, But they try to trick
ReplyDeleteyou too.
2)I take my time because I know that 4 hours is a lot more than enough time and I would end up with 2 hours of reading and boringness.
It was my first 4 hour test, so next time I would do it slower.
1.The quetions were the same but there was a little pressure because it was timed.
ReplyDelete2.If i got to a hard one then I skipped it.Then when I was done I went to the ones I skipped and then answered them.
3.I would have done half of the questions then bubbled them in.Then do the second half and then bubble those in.
-- Gauri
1.The questions were reasonably easy but there was a little pressure because of the time limit.
ReplyDelete2.If a question was too hard then I skipped it.Then at the end I would do the questions that I skipped.
3.I would have done half of the test then bubble in the answers. Then do the same with the other half.
-- Gauri
1.I thought it was harder for me and thats all i noticed. 2.Reading it over and over again and underlining the important things. 3.I would try to do better but the really hard ones i would like to get help from mrs.moser.
ReplyDelete1. I thought that the test had easy problems like the benchmark has. But, the problems are more complicating than usual.
ReplyDelete2. Well, I showed work on almost every single question and wrote why the answer was wrong because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to mark the wrong choice.
3. I would have bubbled in the answers as we go because it would have been easier. It wouldn't have taken as much time as not bubbling in the answers as you go but when you're done with the test. I am not really used to bubbling in while you go because in the years I have done a bubble sheet, the teacher always told me to bubble in the answers last because if you mark hard and you make a mistake and you try to erase it on the bubble sheet, you might not be able to erase it or you might rip the paper.
--Lillian Chieng #1
I accutually think it is harder than the real TAKS.
ReplyDelete--Lillian Chieng
1) It looks just like the regular benchmarks with bubble sheets but it is WAY longer.
ReplyDelete2)My best strategy would to stay calm and do your best but not overflowing w/ stress
3)Make sure to know to read the question as careful as possible and to make sure to check my work about 3-5 times U can mess up!).

ReplyDelete1.i think it was the same as the TAKS test but this was timed.
2.i always read the questions over and over again so it kinda gets stuck in my head.
3.i would have checked over mine more.
1. The STAAR test is longer and harder than the TAKS test.
ReplyDelete2. Do your best to figure out a problem you don't get and take your time
3. Yes I will probably go slower
1.it was very deitailed.
ReplyDelete2.to reread the problem and to take your time.
3.to go slower on each problem and work it out and to go over it a couple more times to make sure i got it right. (if i had enough time in the the to go over it i would.)
